The Dirty Little Secret About "Best of" Awards

Everyone likes to be awarded a “Best of” by their peers and customers.  It’s a  mark of who is truly talented at their craft , excels in customer service, and offers quality product----right?

Well, no.                                                                              Dirty Little Secret

Many “Best Of” awards are simply given to the company that  is able to garner  the most clients, employees, friends and family members   willing to  to submit an on-line vote—as many times as possible.  Because many of these sites have no limit as to how many times an individual can enter.   Perhaps a better title would be “Best Use of Random Internet Time ”. While  their “fans” are on-line, perhaps time would be better spent entering sweepstakes for  free Caribbean Cruises, or signing the Bring Back Pudding Pops petition  ….

Now, not all Best of Awards are this type of formula.  Some are judged by a panel of experts.  Others allow only one vote per email address (although this still remains a popularity contest often voted on by employees and family friends and not a true measure of  the company’s quality.)

This blog is to serve as an eye-opener for those who believe that “Best Of” truly means just that.  Our company has decided to distance ourselves from these types of on-line awards.  Instead we encourage recognition given by  industry experts , and also  to rely  on our customers’ thoughtful feedback and reviews. We strive to do better every day, and will no longer solicit our clients and friends in  “Best Of” popularity contests.
