Getting Married During a Global Pandemic

That is a title I never thought I would type.  Many couples are facing a challenge in their wedding planning that none of the articles or planners could have warned you about. A global pandemic. This is causing couples to get creative and get serious; either continue planning a wedding—albeit a different one than you may have imagined—or hold off until 2021 or later. We are sharing a couple that chose to go smaller now and host a larger celebration later.

Annie and Andrew were planning a May 2 wedding at the gorgeous Ashery Lane. In early March they realized with their planner, Sarah Trotter of Lasting Impressions, that the original plan was not going to work and began moving the wedding to late August. Shortly after moving the wedding, the couple wanted to make their nuptials official and chose to host a smaller ceremony in April. The bride’s mother, Amy, reached out to Katiee Wandmacher, one of Après’ Senior Event Specialist, and they got to work planning an intimate backyard ceremony and dinner for the couples sweet at-home nuptials.

We wanted to share some of the steps the family and guests took for their ceremony at home. You should always do what makes you and those that you love comfortable. Guests that were invited were immediate families who had quarantined together and close friends that had quarantined together. Couples and families were spaced out six feet apart for the ceremony. Nana got an extra special view looking on from the upper deck. Following the ceremony, a small physically distanced champagne toast took place. An intimate dinner in front of the indoor fireplace followed for only their immediate families.

Après dropped off rentals the day before and left the items in the garage. Rentals included gold chiavari chairs for the ceremony, an aisle runner, tables & specialty table linens. Items were set up by the family and then packed up for Après to pick up from the garage a full day later. No contact needed!

The couple had a wonderful photographer, Shan St Clair, on site to capture the special day. Flom Wedding Films was also there and made this amazing wedding film to remember the day by.

From the Mother of the Bride, “Having used Après for another daughter’s wedding and two graduation parties, I knew what kind of excellent quality to expect in all of the items we needed for this unique occasion, and in fact, Après delivered in every way possible. What was an added blessing during the tumultuous few weeks we had to plan a wedding under these circumstances was the care and support we received from our event specialist, Katiee. Her kindness and patience with us as we worked through the details were so appreciated and she made us feel like she wanted the day to be extremely special and memorable as much as we did! Though all Après could do was deliver and pick up our rentals due to restrictions, they offered much more than that by way of compassionate concern for us and attention to every detail as we planned and carried out a beautiful intimate wedding.”

We look forward to celebrating with Annie and Andrew and all their guests whenever that may be!

The biggest thing when planning your intimate ceremony during these times is you must do what is most comfortable for you and those you love. As a rental company we really love seeing couples postpone rather than cancel. We are here to help make your new plans just as special as your original. No matter how you do it, you will have a wedding to remember!
